CUYAHOGA FALLS – HOSPITALS

Summa Western Reserve Hospital
Summa Western Reserve Hospital is a community teaching hospital that traces its roots to 1943, when a small group of osteopathic physicians and surgeons founded the 35-bed, not-for-profit Green Cross General Hospital in Akron. A decade later, ground was broken for a new 78-bed hospital at 1900 23rd Street in nearby Cuyahoga Falls. An ambulatory-care center was added in 1975.

In 1978, the hospital (which had changed its name to Cuyahoga Falls General Hospital to better identify with the area it served) announced the opening of a family practice center. The full-service, primary-care hospital remained independent until 2001, when it became an affiliate of the nationally-recognized Summa Health System. Licensed for 250 beds, Summa Western Reserve Hospital is recognized for its excellence in emergency services, senior services –particularly adult daycare — surgical services, pain management, as well as a full spectrum of outpatient services. The strong collaboration between the Hospital and the City of Cuyahoga Falls has resulted in a continued expansion of services to the community, most notably the Wellness and Rehab Center at the Natatorium. Additional information, including the physician referral line, can be accessed at www.summahealth.org
